It is with great regret that Science Fiction Ireland must announce the death of its President James White. James suffered a stroke on Sunday and entered a coma. He died on Monday evening. The funeral service will take place in Port Stewart on Friday Morning in St Mary's Star of the Sea church at 10am. Following the service the cortege will drive to Roselawn Cemetry in Belfast where James' body will be cremated at 1pm. Science Fiction Ireland will be represented.
I met James for the first time in 1987 at the Brighton Worldcon and I was immediately by his kindness and generosity of spirit. On every occasion that I have met him since then that first impression was reinforced. I last saw him at Octocon Lite last year where he was guest of honour. I spoke to him only a few short weeks ago. He had just received his new Macintosh G3 and needed some help with it. I'm glad to have met him. And I will miss him.
